Finally found a little bit of time to experiment with the ideas I’ve had about Q3:A gameplay. It turns out that it’s really difficult to design gameplay before you sit around for a little while and play the game against human opponents. Not only can I now say that I am a formidable force on ztn3tourney1, but I’ve taken away an appreciation for how difficult it is to create something compelling. kazdm6 is a small, 4 atrium tournament map with a MH/YA/RA setup. Its main interesting features are the structural disincentives surrounding the MH (tricky jump over lava to exit one way, tall jumppad with one non-RJ means of exit the other), the GL spamming passage behind the RA, and some interesting non-axial geometry.
